Berkman Slugs Spiders to 6-4 Win
|
The Cleveland Spiders topped the Chicago American Giants, 6-4, in American League action at League Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Cleveland designated hitter Lance Berkman. Bob Feller earned the win for Cleveland. He lasted 8 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 13. With the win, he raised his record to 7-3. Terry Adams notched his 19th save in 22 chances.
Berkman had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 2-2 splitter from Tom Williams, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Spiders a 6-4 lead. It was the 37th home run of the year for Berkman.
Cleveland manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
With the win, the Spiders sit at 59-47.
