The Erie Blackbirds had to overcome a fine effort from D.C. pitcher Kevin Gross to grab a narrow 5-4 win at Swampoodle Grounds. Gross went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Joe Thatcher was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 6 save opportunities. The win boosted Erie to 34-29.

In the top of the ninth inning of a 4-4 tie, Erie shortstop Josh Rutledge hit a run-scoring single. It broke the deadlock and put Erie on top, 5-4.
