Spikes goes 3-for-5 in Jackrabbits Win
|
Behind the bravura of right fielder Charlie Spikes, the Kokomo Jackrabbits topped the Penn Yan Mustangs by the score of 11-9. Spikes went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4 for the Jackrabbits. The winning pitcher was Bart Johnson. He's now 2-5. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Jackrabbits. Kokomo is 4th in the WBL Rook National INDY RN - West with a record of 35-37.
There was more than one reason the Jackrabbits beat the Mustangs, but Spikes's big at-bat in the top of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 3-0 lead when he hit a 3-run home run.
Jackrabbits manager Kyle Thomson wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
