Chavez Hits 3 home runs in Colored Gophers Win
The first-place St. Paul Colored Gophers picked up another win.

The St. Paul Colored Gophers downed the Staten Island Yankees, 8-6. The hitting star was third baseman Eric Chavez. Chavez slugged 3 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored three times for the Colored Gophers. Cy Morgan, the winning pitcher, is now 4-1. He went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 9 and walking 2. J D Durbin notched his 11th save in 11 chances.

Chavez had no bigger at-bat than in the bottom of the third when the 31-year old third baseman hit a 2-run home run. The home run gave St. Paul the lead, 4-3. It was his 27th home run of the season.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Chavez.

St. Paul is rocking and rolling at 52-21.
