Victory Takes Blackbirds to 44-35
|
A 3-RBI performance from left fielder Ed Stroud, who leads the ARN in triples with 6, led the Erie Blackbirds to a win over the Mineola Black Spiders, 7-5. Wei-Yin Chen, the winning pitcher, is now 9-2. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 9 and walking 2. Erie now has a record of 44-35 with the win.
Rusty Torres had a big 3-run home run for the Blackbirds in the bottom of the third inning. With Erie leading 4-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Scott Scudder and swatted a home run to right. It was his 22nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Blackbirds ahead, 7-2.
"The more wins we pile up," said Torres, "the more I like our chances."
