Philadelphia Pythians starter Pete Richert was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the London Werewolves, 5-2. With the win, Philadelphia pushed its record to 43-38.

The Pythians got an important contribution from first baseman Lance Niekro, who in the bottom of the second punched a 0-2 curveball into right-center for a 2-run home run. It was his 28th home run of the season and put the Pythians ahead, 3-0.

Niekro told a Philadelphia Herald reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
