Staten Island picked up a win at Ballpark at St. George, toppling the Kokomo Jackrabbits, 4-2. Pitcher Dennis Rasmussen was one of the reasons the Yankees triumphed. Rasmussen, now 6-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Ed Hawk earned his 15th save in 16 tries.
With Staten Island trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, the Yankees struck gold when right fielder Michael Tucker turned a 2-2 fastball from Jackrabbits hurler Jeff D Robinson into his 25th home run of the season. The hit scored 2 and put Staten Island up, 2-1.
"It feels good to get this one," Rasmussen told the Staten Island Observer.
The win makes Staten Island 40-53.
