The Staten Island Yankees topped the Philadelphia Pythians, 6-4, in WBL Rook National action at Recreation Park. The standout performance belonged to Staten Island pitcher and Evanston, Illinois, native Kevin Foster. Foster went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 7-3. Ed Hawk notched his 16th save in 17 chances.

Walter Barbare was a prime contributor to the Staten Island win. He went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth with two out, the 28-year old first baseman hit a 2-run home run. It made the score 3-1, in favor of the Yankees.

"I had one goal in mind," said Foster. "Keep pounding the zone."
