Homestead starter Billy Pierce pitched well against the Philadelphia Stars at Shibe Park AL. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. Homestead raised its record to 58-53 with the win.

Homestead used a clutch at-bat from Willie Stargell to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Grays ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Pierce. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
