Chicago and Miami put this game in the books despite some rain.

No one was more impactful than Frank Thomas in the 8-3 Chicago win over Miami. Thomas, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in hits with 19, was 4 for 4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jamie Moyer got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2.

Chicago used the clutch hitting of Dick Allen to snag the win. The third baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the American Giants ahead, 7-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
