Detroit beat Cleveland at Tiger Stadium, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to shortstop George Davis. He went 2 for 3 with a home run. Detroit pitcher Jack F Wilson earned the win, hiking his record to 4-0. Hank Gastright suffered the loss. Mike Henneman earned his 15th save in 18 chances.

Had Chili Davis not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Davis hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Wolverines.

"It's not about individual awards," Davis told a Detroit Bulletin reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."

The Wolverines, at 54-59, inhabit third place in the American League Bill James Division.
