The Birmingham Black Barons defeated the New York Gothams, 13-3. Doing his part was left fielder Ryan Braun, who was 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Alejandro Peña, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-6. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The 4th-place Black Barons improved to 54-60.

With Birmingham leading 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Braun came up to bat against New York pitcher Carl Hubbell. Braun hit a curveball to right for a 3-run home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Black Barons on top, 10-1.

New York manager Daniel Makonnen said: "We got ambushed. We just sashayed into the canyon and they were firing from both sides."
