Wood goes 3-for-4 to Power Monarchs Offense
|
The Kansas City Monarchs tallied a win at Wrigley Field, throttling the Wandering House of David, 3-2. Starting pitcher Smokey Joe Wood was a big reason for his team's success. Craig Kimbrel got the save, his 7th in 7 chances. The National League Marvin Miller Division-leading Monarchs have a record of 60-57.
Kansas City used the hitting of Robinson Canó to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Monarchs on top, 3-2. For the game, Canó had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
Wandering manager Daniel Makonnen said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
