The Brooklyn Royal Giants picked up a win at Shibe Park AL, knocking off the Philadelphia Stars, 8-4. Starting pitcher Orel Hershiser played a key role in the triumph. The winner was Hershiser. He threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was Hardie Henderson. Brooklyn goes to 69-46. The win puts them 9½ games up in their division.

Duke Snider had a big 2-run home run for the Royal Giants in the top of the fourth inning. With Brooklyn leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a slider from Hardie Henderson, who is tied for 6th in the NL in wins with 12, and punished it. The result was his 30th home run of the season, which put the Royal Giants on top, 4-0.

Snider told a Brooklyn Herald reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
