Black Sox Need Extra Innings to Top Red Sox, 10-9
|
Getting a good performance from second baseman Larry Gardner, the Baltimore Black Sox defeated the Memphis Red Sox, 10-9. Gardner went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Black Sox. With the victory, the Black Sox upped their record to 69-51.
Baltimore relied on the bat of Frank Robinson to get the win. The left fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Black Sox ahead, 10-9. For the game, Robinson had 1 double and 1 home run in 6 at-bats.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Baltimore manager Daniel Makonnen.
