Spiders Roll to 8-3 Win Over Sea Dogs
|
The Cleveland Spiders defeated the Portland Sea Dogs, 8-3, at League Park. Leading the charge for Cleveland was second baseman Chuck Knoblauch. He was 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Whit Wyatt, now 5-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. The wins continue to add up for Cleveland. The latest makes it 7 in a row.
In the bottom of the sixth, Cleveland designated hitter Willie McCovey had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, McCovey stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 4-2, Cleveland. For the game, he went 1 for 3 with a hit by pitch.
