The home crowd had a good time watching the Chicago American Giants and Miami Cuban Giants get after it.

The Miami Cuban Giants topped the Chicago American Giants, 13-5, in American League action at Baker Bowl. The game was highlighted by the performance of Miami first baseman Jim Thome. Chicago, with the loss, is still a stout 9-3.

With Miami leading 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Thome batted against Chicago pitcher Tricky Nichols. Thome hit a curveball to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season put the Cuban Giants on top, 9-0.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Thome. "But I like how we're playing right now."
