The Portland Sea Dogs knocked off the Los Angeles Angels, 5-2, in American League action at Griffith Stadium. Portland pitcher and Humboldt, Tennessee, native Walter Johnson had an outstanding performance. Portland is now 57-67. Los Angeles is 57-66.

Portland got a knockout punch from Bobby Murcer. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

Portland manager Daniel Makonnen said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
