The Miami Cuban Giants took Chicago pitcher Ed Walsh's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Baker Bowl. The final score had Miami getting past the American Giants, 5-3. Walsh went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 7. Miami reliever Ricky Nolasco picked up the win, raising his record to 7-3. Fernando Rodney was tagged with the loss. By defeating Chicago, the second-place Cuban Giants improved to 60-65.

Miami took a 5-3 lead on José Canseco's 58th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Canseco hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Chicago pitcher Fernando Rodney visibly frustrated.

"You need to show up when your number's called," said Canseco.
