Van Slyke Slugs Grays to 5-3 Win
|
Andy Van Slyke was a vital contributor to the 5-3 Homestead victory over Ottawa. The Grays center fielder hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 and driving in 2. Francisco Liriano, the winner, improved to 8-9. He held the Mounties to 3 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Ottawa's current losing streak is now 4 games.
Homestead took a 4-2 lead on Van Slyke's 23rd home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Al Orth in the top of the sixth, propelled Homestead to the win.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Van Slyke said.
