The Birmingham Black Barons and starting pitcher John Malarkey stifled the Wandering offense en route to a comfortable 8-1 win at Rickwood Field. The Black Barons, at 60-67, sit in last place in the National League Marvin Miller Division.

Herman Long had a big 3-run home run for the Black Barons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Birmingham leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Fergie Jenkins and punished it. The result was his 14th home run of the season, which put the Black Barons on top, 6-0.

Long called the win "what playing unselfish baseball looks like."
