Gothams Lose to Monarchs, 7-5
The Kansas City Monarchs trumped the New York Gothams, 7-5, at Muehlebach Field 1923-1941. Kansas City third baseman Albert Pujols was terrific. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Kansas City reliever Adam Wainwright was credited with the win. His record goes to 1-0. Guy Hecker took the loss for New York. With the victory, the Monarchs upped their record to 65-63.

Kansas City second baseman Robinson Canó contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 94th hit of the season and put the Monarchs ahead, 6-5.

"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Canó.
