Wolverines Win Thriller, 7-5
|
The Detroit Wolverines beat the Cleveland Spiders, 7-5, at Tiger Stadium. Hank Greenberg, in particular, was impressive. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Detroit reliever Chad Bradford picked up the win, upping his record to 6-6. Terry Adams was saddled with the loss. The win gives Detroit a season record of 65-64.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Detroit trailing 5-3, Greenberg jumped on a slider from two-time All-Star Terry Adams and hit a grand slam home run to left-center. With one swing, the Wolverines had a walk-off win.
"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Greenberg.
