Gamble Leads Wolverines to 11-4 Win Over Spiders
The 11-4 Detroit win over Cleveland was due largely to Oscar Gamble. The Wolverines right fielder was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Connie Johnson picked up the win, lifting his record to 2-0 on the season. He struck out 7 and walked 0 in 7 innings, while yielding 3 runs. The Wolverines, now 66-64, have won 4 in a row.

The Spiders had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Wolverines going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old left fielder J. D. Martinez came to the plate. Martinez hit a 3-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Cleveland hurler Yordano Ventura. It was Martinez's 10th home run of the year.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Detroit manager Daniel Makonnen.
