Though the conditions were not ideal, the Homestead Grays and Brooklyn Royal Giants came back from a rain delay to finish their game.
Led by Owen Wilson, the Homestead Grays defeated the Brooklyn Royal Giants, 4-2. Wilson went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Grays. Homestead reliever David Price picked up the win to move to 1-0. Don Drysdale suffered the loss.
Left Fielder Rick Reichardt made an impact for Homestead, when he swatted a 2-run home run off Don Drysdale in the bottom of the first. For the contest, Reichardt was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Wilson said.
With the victory, the Grays upped their record to 66-65.
