Wolverines Deal Miami 6-4 Defeat
The Detroit Wolverines defeated the Miami Cuban Giants, 6-4, in American League action at Tiger Stadium. Detroit pitcher Hal Newhouser had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Newhouser, now 1-0. He tossed 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Mike Henneman.

The Wolverines got a big at-bat from right fielder Ty Cobb. For the game, Cobb was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Detroit a 5-1 lead.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Newhouser told the Detroit Times.

Detroit is off to a hot start at 2-0.
