Behind a solid performance from right fielder Larry Doby, the Cleveland Spiders defeated the New York Black Yankees, 5-4. Doby was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Spiders. With the win, Cleveland upped its record to 74-55.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Cleveland shortstop Arky Vaughan, facing Goose Gossage, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Spiders the 5-4 win.

Cleveland manager Daniel Makonnen was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
