Black Yankees Deal Spiders 6-5 Defeat
Eric Davis was instrumental in his team's 6-5 triumph over the Cleveland Spiders. The left fielder slugged 2 home runs for the New York Black Yankees. Andy Pettitte, who is tied for 10th in the AL with a 8.6 K/9 rate, was the winner. He's now 16-8. The loser was Cy Young. Hoyt Wilhelm converted his 1st save in 1 tries.

New York took a 6-3 lead on Davis's 28th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Hank Gastright in the top of the seventh, propelled New York to the win.

"We take it day by day here," said Davis, "and today was a good one for us."

The victory gives the Black Yankees a record of 74-60.
