Sea Dogs Use Late Score to Top Wolverines, 5-4
Though he had a stellar game, Ty Cobb could not prevent his team, the Detroit Wolverines, from losing, 5-4, to the Portland Sea Dogs. Cobb went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Trevor Hoffman converted his 14th save in 17 tries. The last-place Sea Dogs now have a record of 60-73.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Kent Hrbek was at the plate when Portland scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Sea Dogs to go in front, 5-4.

"We found a way to get it done," Hrbek said.
