Black Barons Edge Past Gothams, 3-2
|
The New York Gothams and Birmingham Black Barons provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Birmingham Black Barons beat the New York Gothams, 3-2, in part because of right fielder Hank Aaron. He belted 2 home runs. The winner was Jim Whitney in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Don Sutton took the loss.
Cupid Childs, who is the 7th-best prospect in the Black Barons organization, chipped in for Birmingham with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.
"We were in it," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen. "We just didn't score enough runs."
The Black Barons, at 74-60, lead by one game in their division.
