The Miami Cuban Giants could not turn a fine performance from catcher Iván Rodríguez into a win. Instead, the Los Angeles Angels prevailed, 8-7. Rodríguez slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Tom Seaver got credit for the win, improving to 7-8. He allowed 6 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. Julio Teheran earned his 3rd save in 5 chances.

Jay Bell had a key at-bat with two out in the bottom of the seventh for Los Angeles. With the bases loaded and the Angels leading 7-6, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Bell said.

The third-place Angels now sit at 61-73.
