Black Sox Lose as Wolverines Stage Late Rally
|
The Detroit Wolverines took Baltimore pitcher Jim Palmer's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Camden Yards. The final score had Detroit getting past the Black Sox, 4-2. Palmer went 6 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 3. Detroit reliever Joakim Soria snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Rafael Betancourt shouldered the loss. With the win, Detroit raised its record to 69-67.
Oscar Gamble, who is tied for 5th in the AL in bases on balls with 82, helped out the Detroit cause in the top of the eighth inning with a solo home run. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk.
Baltimore manager Daniel Makonnen said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
