Sea Lions Fall Short, 9-8, at New York
Fans watched the New York Black Yankees and the San Francisco Sea Lions fight to the finish.

A good performance from left fielder Babe Ruth helped the New York Black Yankees defeat the San Francisco Sea Lions, 9-8. Ruth went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Black Yankees. New York reliever Gary Lavelle was the winner. His record is now 1-3. The losing pitcher was Ken Howell.

New York took a 8-5 lead on Mike Schmidt's 21st home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off San Francisco pitcher Ken Howell in the bottom of the seventh.

"We'll savor this win," Ruth told the New York Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."

The triumph puts New York at 75-62 for the season.
