Konerko Hits 2 home runs in Black Barons Win
|
Soggy conditions did not keep Birmingham and Homestead from playing their scheduled game.
Birmingham first baseman Paul Konerko contributed significantly to his team's 6-5 win over the Homestead Grays. Konerko, who is tied for 9th in the NL in home runs with 3, went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Black Barons. The winner was John Malarkey, who threw 108 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 11 hits.
Konerko had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-2 slider from Michael Jackson, he banged a grand slam home run to right, giving the Black Barons a 6-4 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Konerko.
"Every time I go up there, I try and hit a ball hard," said Konerko.
The loss puts Homestead at 7-7.
