Monarchs Beat Brooklyn, 1-0
|
Kansas City got a first-rate effort from pitcher Luke Hamlin, who frustrated Brooklyn hitters en route to a 1-0 Monarchs triumph at Muehlebach Field. Hamlin, the winner, moves to 9-12. He threw 9 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up no walks. The win puts the Monarchs at 62-76, while the Royal Giants drop to 69-69.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Kansas City left fielder Ducky Medwick, facing Trevor Hildenberger, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Monarchs the 1-0 win.
"We'll savor this win," Medwick told the Kansas City Observer, "then get ready for the next game."
