Singleton Delivers Walk-Off Win for Black Sox
|
The Birmingham Black Barons got a sterling performance from pitcher Andy Pettitte, but the Baltimore Black Sox still prevailed, 2-1. Pettitte threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Baltimore pitcher Buddy Groom got the win, upping his record to 2-2. Kent Mercker got the loss. Baltimore leads the AL Cumberland Posey Division by 4 games.
Ken Singleton was the walk-off hero for Baltimore. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Black Sox designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"Nervous? No," said Singleton. "It was my time to shine."
