Pettitte Now 17-8 After Beating Sea Dogs
|
Andy Pettitte was outstanding against Portland. The left-hander, who is tied for 4th in the AL in quality starts with 15, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Black Yankees 5-1 win. New York raised its record to 77-62 with the win.
Pettitte, who dominated for New York, earned the victory to move to 17-8. He was in control the whole game, scattering 3 hits over 8.1 innings, while striking out 9. Portland batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
New York manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
