Spiders Come Up Short at San Francisco, 2-1
|
The San Francisco Sea Lions picked up a win at Oracle Park, topping the Cleveland Spiders, 2-1. On the mound for San Francisco was left-hander Eddie Plank. He played a principal role in the triumph. The Sea Lions have an impressive 88-50 record.
Jimmie Foxx had a big solo home run for the Sea Lions in the bottom of the second inning. With San Francisco leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Yordano Ventura and punished it. The result was his 44th home run of the season, which put the Sea Lions on top, 2-0.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Plank.
