Rijo Now 8-10 Following 3-1 Win
|
Muehlebach Field 1923-1941 was the site of a tense game between the Birmingham Black Barons and Kansas City Monarchs.
José Rijo, who is tied for 8th in the NL in quality starts with 14, was in top form in a tight contest between Kansas City and Birmingham. The Monarchs right-hander helped his team beat the Black Barons, 3-1. Craig Kimbrel earned his 13th save in 14 chances.
Rijo was effective for Kansas City, seldom allowing the Black Barons to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 110 pitches over 8 innings. He limited Birmingham to just 1 run on 3 hits.
"Got a lot of swings and misses today," said Rijo.
With the win, Kansas City pushed its record to 71-69.
