The skies opened up and the rain fell at Fenway Park.
Portland designated hitter Chuck Klein played a vital role in his team's 6-4 conquest of Memphis. He was 1 for 4 with a home run. He scored 3 times for Portland. Jack Billingham wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
Portland used the timely hitting of Gil Hodges to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sea Dogs on top, 6-4. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice win for us," said Klein. "Now we'll go after the next one."
The win puts Portland at 2-0.
