Clark Goes Deep Twice, Helps Gothams Top Black Barons, 12-8
New York beat Birmingham in a rain-soaked ballgame.

Led by Will Clark, the New York Gothams downed the Birmingham Black Barons, 12-8. Clark went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice for the Gothams. The winning pitcher was 33-year old right-handed pitcher Juan Marichal. He tossed 78 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.

With New York leading 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Clark batted against Birmingham pitcher Warren Spahn. Clark hit a fastball to right for a grand slam home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Gothams on top, 11-3.

"We took home the win," said Clark. "What's not to like?"

The Black Barons fall to 4-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2001 season.
