Homestead Falls Again, 4-0
|
Conditions were not ideal but Philadelphia and Homestead were able to put their game in the books.
Hardie Henderson, who is tied for 4th in the NL in wins with 16, never let the Grays get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Stars to a win, 4-0. Henderson picked up the win for Philadelphia, going 6.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 16-12.
Philadelphia used a clutch at-bat from Ted Kluszewski to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Stars ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Said losing manager Daniel Makonnen: "The only way to escape your past is to be better than your past."
The Grays, now 69-77, have lost 7 straight.
