Detroit starter Hal Newhouser pitched well against the Cleveland Spiders at League Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 10-7. With the win, Detroit pushed its record to 75-72.

Ernie Lombardi had a big run-scoring double for the Wolverines in the top of the second inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Yordano Ventura and swatted a double to right. It was his 22nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolverines ahead, 2-0.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Lombardi. "It sure beats the alternative."
