Doby Slugs Spiders to 8-5 Win
The Cleveland Spiders defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 8-5. Doing his part was right fielder Larry Doby, who hit 3 home runs. With the win, Cleveland upped its record to 82-65.

The Wolverines had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Spiders going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old first baseman Lance Berkman came to the plate. Berkman hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 screwball from Detroit hurler Connie Johnson. It was Berkman's 52nd home run of the year.

"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Doby.
