The Chicago American Giants and Memphis Red Sox fought to the finish at South Side Park.
Chicago American Giants starter Ben Sheets pitched a strong game against the Memphis Red Sox at South Side Park, leading the American Giants to victory, 4-3. Chicago reliever A. J. Minter picked up the win, raising his record to 2-1. Jonathan Papelbon was tagged with the loss.
Frank Thomas, who is tied for 9th in the AL in runs scored with 12, won the game with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Shane Bieber in the bottom of the sixth. In the contest, the Chicago first baseman went 1-3 with a walk.
"Ben giving us the start that he did was huge," said Chicago manager Daniel Makonnen.
Early on, the American Giants, at 11-4, have excelled.
