The Chicago American Giants got a superb performance from pitcher Waite Hoyt, but the Los Angeles Angels still won the game, 9-7. Hoyt threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner in relief was Vic Willis. He is now 1-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Los Angeles got a knockout punch from Steve Garvey. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
