Colt 45s Topple Black Barons with Late Rally
|
Toad Ramsey was outstanding against Birmingham. The left-hander, who is on pace for 292 strikeouts this season, had a knuckleball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Colt 45s 6-4 win. Sparky Lyle, credited with the save, is now 5 for 7 in save opportunities. Houston improves to 78-71 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Tony Gwynn? The 25-year old right fielder Gwynn stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Houston up, 5-4. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Toad is good at sticking to his strengths," said Houston manager Daniel Makonnen.
