Black Sox Deal Angels 4-2 Defeat
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Manny Machado, the Baltimore Black Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 4-2. Machado went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Black Sox. Dick Ellsworth got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The Baltimore win streak is now 3 games.
Machado had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-2 slider from Dwight Gooden, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Black Sox a 1-0 lead. It was the 43rd home run of the year for Machado.
Baltimore manager Daniel Makonnen commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
