The Memphis Red Sox got a superb performance from pitcher Len Barker, but the Brooklyn Royal Giants still won the game, 4-3. Barker threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. Brooklyn raised its record to 76-72 with the win.

Matt Holliday was the walk-off hero for Brooklyn. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royal Giants pinch hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"This place was rocking at the end," Holliday said.
