Grays Earn Late Win
|
The Homestead Grays did just enough to secure a victory over the Brooklyn Royal Giants, 3-2, in 11 innings at Forbes Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Bob Friend. Reliever Josh Lindblom picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Darren Dreifort took the loss. The loss has the Royal Giants at 7-8.
Homestead got a knockout punch from Willie Stargell. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
Stargell called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
